Hey guys . It me again. In my last post about planning a trip to Siem Reap, I didn’t cover on what activities or things to do in Siem Reap. Therefore,in this post I’m going to talk about things you can do in Siem Reap if you only have 48hours here.
1.Visiting Angkor Archaeological Park
This is definitely a no brainer. Isn’t this the whole point of coming to Siem Reap?Siem Reap is famous for Angkor Wat temple and it was built in the 12th century by King Suryavarman II.
How to get there ?
You can either rent a tuk tuk for the day or you can follow local tour.
If you decided to go by yourself and spend the whole day there, my sister mention she did negotiate with the tuk tuk driver for a day and it cost her 25 US dollar . Tips: Always negotiate the fare before riding any tuk tuk if you are not using the PassApp or Grab (E-hailing taxi app). The tuk tuk driver drive her from her hotel , to the location of Angkor Wat and other temples around it and then back to her hotel .
If you are solo traveler and you want to travel with other solo traveler as well, you can always join a local tour .Any hotels or hostel that you live in,should have contacts or able to help you to book any local tour. Most of the hotels and hostels here do have connections with some local travel agent. For me I used Klook. It a site that allow you handpicked which local tour I want to join with the best price. If you interested to used this ,I put a link below and you get a RM15 as a gift once you signed up using my code below.
Where to buy the entrance tickets?
Before going into the Angkor Archaeological Park ,every tourist (non-Cambodian citizen) must buy a pass before entering. The only place where you can purchase the entrance tickets is at the Angkor Ticket Office.
The office is located on Road 60, 4km away from Siem Reap’s center. For more info I will put the website of the ticketing company and google link below for you.
You can either buy 1 day pass which cost you 37 US Dollar or 3 days pass 62 US dollar or 7 day pass which cost 72 US dollar. You can pay by cash or major credit card are accepted.
Note: There is always a long queue to buy the ticket at the office and you must buy the ticket before entering or else they will refuse your entry to the site.
As for me I bought the Angkor Wat temple tour with Klook but this cover the transport from your accommodation back and forth and tour guide.Entrance ticket to the Angkor Wat is not included and you need to buy it separately. This is one of best seller tour and if you are solo traveler you can join this tour without an hassle and a guide who explain to you the history of the temple in the tour ( if you are lazy to do your own research and just want people to explain it to you). I put the link below for you to check it out .
Overall I had a great time joining this tour and my tour guide Mr Kim is really a good tour guide and take care of us throughout the whole tour. This tour take about 8-9 hours and unfortunately we can’t cover everything in one day as the park is very huge but we did cover major important and famous temples during this tour.Below are some of the pictures I took and Mr Kim took during our tour.
2.Going to Pub Street for a drink at night
Pub Streets is one of the famous landmark in Siem Reap and this activities can only be done at night only because in day time it a dead quiet street. At night the whole street is full of pubs or bars which you can select to have a drinking session with your friends .
After the local tour I make a couple of friends and they are solo traveler as well. We all agreed to meet up at Pub Streets for a drink . An Angkor draft beer only cost 50 cents only ( in US currency) which is about Ringgit Malaysia 2 only. That right ! It is so dirt cheap. Cambodia is known for its cheap beer as well because they produce their own beer called Angkor Beer and Cambodia Beer.
Here I put the address and google map link below as references on how to get there.
Address: Street 08, Krong Siem Reap, Cambodia
No trip to complete without a trip to the famous pub street at night to have the world cheapest draft beer with your friends. This pretty much wrap up my first day things to do in Siem Reap.I hope you get inspired in your next trip here.In my next post I will continue to share things to do in Siem Reap if you have only 48hours here. See ya.
